After another great breakfast we drove to Muggia, a small fishing village next to Trieste.
The drive over there is not really scenic, you drive by an industrial harbor with a lot of cranes and containers.
Muggia is a small, but really beautiful little town. It reminded me a lot of villages in Croatia. With a lot of colourful painted houses, wooden window frames and small flower pots all over the place.
It has a long sort of „beachstrip“ without sand, mostly asphalt and big rocks.
our lunch was the typical italian food: PIZZA at Trattoria Birreria Al Porto. It´s located on a small square next to the harbour.
Our next stop was Castello di Miramare on the other side of Trieste. It is a small castle built by archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, the brother of emperor Franz Josef I. The view of the sea is just wow and you can take a long stroll through the surrounding park.
It´s easy to get there by car, but today was really heavy traffic. We had to wait 30 minutes to get inside the compound to find a parking spot. I would recommend to go there by Trieste HopTour. That´s far more relaxing.
If you go there by car you have to pay an hourly fee (around 2€).
In the evening we went to Osteria Istriano and enjoyed a really good fish plate for two 🙂
