Ho Chi Minh City – part 2

We had the best streetfood tour today!!But let’s start at the beginning. Today we moved from our normal hotel room into a capsul „room“. It looks like we are on a space ship 🛸 the force is with us 🕶️

After our little adventure in outer space we decided to try some vietnamese specialities: egg coffee, coconut coffee 🧉☕ and some streetfood with chicken🐔

Egg coffee was invented cause it was not allowed to milk cows until after the vietnam war was over. Cows were used for fieldwork only. So they blended eggs into the coffee instead of milk to get some sort of creamy texture. Despite the sound of it, it tasted not as bad as expected. Lena even liked it 🙂

On our way back home we got into a really heavy downpour that lasted for at least half an hour ☔ At first we thought we will just wait till it’s over, but we had to be back home for our streetfood tour, so we got a little (actually really) wet.

We booked the „street food 101“ tour with „saigon street eats„. They sent two nice motorbike drivers to pick us up at our hotel, we put our helmets on and off we went into the travel havoc.

rush hour

Our ride to the meeting was so much fun, I (Kathy) was grinning the whole time. We got to see some parts of district 3 and 5 and got to see a way of dealing with a red traffic light: ignore it as long as there is no bus or truck coming!!

We met the rest of our group in district 3 at a square with no name – a couple from australia on there honeymoon and a canadian girl who planned to drive from HCMC to Hanoi.

The tour included 5 meals (with as many refills as you like) and all drinks (beer as well). There is also a tour of parts of the city included cause we were mostly driving and sometimes walking to the different streetfood vendors.

All in all we payed 2.300.000 VND (tips included) for the two of us. That’s around 43€ each for 4 hours.

If you are looking for an informative and fun tour with great streetfood and a lot of „how to avoid getting ripped-off by locals“ tips, we recommend „saigon street eats„.

We also treated ourselfs to a 60min full body massage at the „Beautiful Saigon Spa„. They welcomed us with a herbal tea, some candied ginger and a foot cleansing. We decided on an „asian mix massage“, it basically covers different massage styles like thai, shiatsu, korean and vietnamese. This was really great, Lena almost fell asleep 🙃

Refreshed and relaxed we walked around exploring the city and eating more streetfood. We also went to Cong Caphe, a vietnamese chain, and got some refreshments.
