Mae Klong Railway Market & Floating Market

Mae Klong Railway Market

We booked a driver for the day at our hotel to see the Railway Market and a floating Market. It cost 1500 baht (~45€) for the three of us for the whole day.
He picked us up at around 7 am, which was great, cause when we arrived at the Railway Market we´ve been almost alone with the venders. But that changed quickly.
The train drives through the market 8 times a day, almost every two hours, so there is a great chance for you to see it. And we would recommend to wait for it. You will know when it´s coming through – there is a loud signal and all the venders are moving there stuff out of the way. You should look for yellow lines on the ground, behind those lines it´s safe to wait. The train won´t scratch your nose 😀
It feels funny and scary at the same time, standing really really close to a moving train. Even if it´s driving painfully slow 😀

But you should take a closer look around the market too. It´s stalls are right next to the train tracks and you walk through it literally on the tracks!!! It feels really weird 🙂 You will see a lot of strange looking food (mostly vegetables, fruits and fish), a lot of meat with flies on top, spices and life animals in all colours and sizes. You get a great insight in traditional thai groceries shopping. We miss it already.
Lena tried a typical thai drink: pink milk. It looks like a strawberry shake, but it does not really taste like it. It tastes more like sugar and (childhood)gum. Let´s say, it wasn´t our most favourite drink during our stay in thailand 😉

Floating Market

Our next stop was Damnoen Saduak floating market. It was sort of a disappointment because it was this sort of tourist attraction where every tourist within 80km is dragged to. On our way to the the market, the boat almost stopped at every jewelery, clothes and souvenir stall hoping, we would buy anything. The centre was really crowded with boats filled with tourists and locals trying to sell stuff. We imagined it a bit different,
but the ride on the boat was fun. Those „captains“ know how to drive 😀
It felt like a rollercoaster ride sometimes. Luckily we didn´t get too wet and we saw some great houses on piles.
