Vietnam is located in south-east Asia with borders to China in the north, the Chinese Sea in the east and south and Laos and Cambodia in the west. It is populated by about 90 Million people, of which around 9 Million live in Hoh-Chi-Minh-City (formally known as Saigon).
Vietnams second largest city and also it´s capital is Hanoi in the north.
We will be travelling to Ho-Chi-Minh-City, Phu Quoc, a small island in the Golf of Thailand, Hanoi and Halong Bay.
Some practical infos:
currency – is the vietnamese Dong (1 Dong = 0,000039 or 1€ = 25502,92 Dong), you will feel like a millionaire in no time 😀 you can withdraw money at ATM´s in every large city; hotels, big restaurants and shops will also accept the common credit cards. But we recommend to always carry cash around.
visas – check at the vietnamese embassy or at the foreign ministry if you need a visa to enter Vietnam. We needed one, so we got an e-visa online. This was very easy and fast. It is valid for a month from date of entry.
weather – you got two climate zones, the subtropical north and the tropical south. Wintertime in the north is from November to April, Summertime from May up to October. rainseason is from June to September. In the south it´s mostly hot, rainseason is from June up to October.
clothes – definitly think about where you wanna go (north/south) and pack accordingly, it can be chilly in the north.
If you wanna visit temples and other religious places we recommend knee-length dresses or pants and a shirt, maybe bring a cardigan or scarf as well, just to be on the safe side.
electricity – there are three types of sockets used in Vietnam (Typ A, C, D). If you have a Type-C plug, it won´t fit into Typ A or D sockets. You should definitely bring an adapter, just to be sure. The voltage is 110 / 220 V, 50 Hz.
