Bangkok

On our first visit to Bangkok, we took a taxi to our hotel. This was a really easy process, cause you have to pull a number, so no one is snatching away your ride 🙂
We stayed at the Travellodge Sikhumvit. It´s a really nice, clean and comfy hotel with a rooftop pool, a breakfast buffet and friendly and helpful staff.

Bangkok has it´s own flair: humid weather, a little smogy, crazy traffic, great food stalls everywhere, sextourism and everything that goes with it. We walked along a street, where there were rows and rows of sex-toys on display.

We went to an amazing rooftop bar and restaurant – „Above Eleven“ with fancy cocktails. The three of us guess, that the food must be amazing too, but we just sticked to the liquid stuff 😀 enjoying the sunset view.

There is a 7-Eleven on every corner in this city, which is great if you forgot something at home or you just want to buy snacks in the middle of the night.

The Grand Palace and Wat Pho
The Grand Palace has been the Residence of the former Kings of Thailand and was built over 230 years ago. Nowadays it´s a tourist attraction and sometimes used for official events, the current King is not living in the Palace anymore.

You have to wear decent clothing to get inside. But what´s decent decide a few thai security guards. We´ve been to the entrence twice, once my cousin wore 3/4 trousers and I wore a short dress. I would have been able to get in, but she wasn´t. The guard next to us sent a women away, wearing a dress. We came back the next day wearing long pants and shirts.

So it basically depends on the guy who´s checking you out. But we would recommend long pants and a shirt or a long dress without a deep neckline and a cardigan.

It´s free for Thais, but tourists have to pay around 500 Baht (~ 15€). You can check all necessary infos (dresscode, opening hours, entrance fee etc.) here.

We´ve been inside for about 2 hours and went to see the emerald-buddha temple (Wat Phra Kaeo), the most famous in Bangkok, and the Kings Palace.

Next stop: Wat Pho, a 10-minutes walk from the Grand Palace. This place is famous for the gilded lying buddha (46m long). They built the temple around the lying buddha.
The dresscode is not as strict as at the Grand Palace.

After our cultural program, we decided to get something to eat and drink in the Khaosan Road. A popular place for Backpackers, cause the street is lined with Hostels, Bars and Shops.

We ate a Scorpion!! It felt a bit weird and disgusting to bite into a scorpion, but it wasn´t bad or good. It tasted like frying fat.
On our way to the hotel, Lena and Tina got a foot-treatment that included tiny fish nibbling on their feet.

It was fun to watch, cause those two weren´t able to stop laughing 😀
